He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And hath fear, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble, pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and let the earth to break open 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
