He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 These verses are a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 How We pour water in showers 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
