The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
When the sun shall be darkened, 1 And when the stars shall dart down, 2 And when the mountains are made to pass away, 3 And when the camels big with young are abandoned, 4 The wild beasts stampede on the run, 5 when the seas shall be set boiling, 6 when the souls shall be rejoined (with their bodies), 7 And when the girl-child who was buried alive is asked. 8 for what crime she was slain, 9 and when the scrolls [of men's deeds] are unfolded, 10 when heaven shall be stripped off; 11 When Hell is set ablaze, 12 and when paradise is brought into view: 13 Then every soul shall know that which it hath presented. 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 Who move straight and stop. 16 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 17 and the morn as it breathes. 18 Verily this is the word of a most honourable Messenger, 19 who is honored in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, 20 [the word] of one to be heeded, and worthy of trust! 21 And (O people) your companion (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is not a madman; 22 And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon. 23 And this Prophet is not miserly upon the hidden. (Allah gave the knowledge of the hidden to the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.) 24 Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned. 25 Then where are you going? 26 This is a reminder for all the peoples of the world, 27 To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight, 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
