The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
When the sun is wound up; 1 And when the stars shall dart down, 2 When the mountains vanish (like a mirage); 3 The ten-month pregnant female camels are abandoned, 4 and when all beasts are gathered together, 5 And when the seas are set on fire, 6 when the souls shall be coupled, 7 And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. 8 For what sin she was slain, 9 And when the written pages of deeds (good and bad) of every person shall be laid open; 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped off and taken away from its place; 11 And when the Scorch shall be made to blaze, 12 And Paradise brought near, 13 Every soul shall (then) know what it has prepared. 14 So verily, I swear by the planets that recede (i.e. disappear during the day and appear during the night). 15 the planets that run their course and set, 16 and the night as it darkly falls, 17 And by oath of the morning when it takes birth. 18 Verily this is the word of a noble message-bearer; 19 with strength endowed, secure with Him who in almightiness is enthroned 20 Obeyed (by the angels), trustworthy there (in the heavens). 21 Nor is your companion distracted. 22 He had surely seen Him on the clear horizon. 23 Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. 24 Nor is this [message] the word of any satanic force accursed. 25 Whither, then, will you go? 26 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, 27 So let those who want, choose the right guidance 28 but will you shall not, unless God wills, the Lord of all Being. 29
