The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
WOE TO THOSE who give short measure, 1 Those who, when they take by measure from mankind, exact the full, 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 Do they not know that they are bound to be raised from the dead 4 On a mighty Day. 5 The day all mankind will stand before the Lord of all the worlds? 6 Nay! Truly, the Record (writing of the deeds) of the Fujjar (disbelievers, sinners, evil-doers and wicked) is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 and what shall teach thee what is Sijjin? 8 (It is) a marked Book. 9 Woe on that Day to those who belied it, 10 Those that deny the Day of Judgment. 11 And none will deny it, except every transgressor, rebel. 12 When you recite Our verses to him, he says, “Stories of earlier men!” 13 No indeed! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. 14 Nay! Surely, they (evil-doers) will be veiled from seeing their Lord that Day. 15 Then indeed they have to enter hell. 16 and it will be said to them: 'This is that which you belied' 17 But, the record of the righteous is [preserved] in the 'Illiyyin -- 18 And what could make thee conceive what that mode most lofty will be? 19 It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed 20 Attested by those who are brought near (unto their Lord). 21 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, 22 On thrones, watching. 23 You can trace on their faces the joy of their bliss. 24 as they are given to drink of a wine sealed 25 pouring forth with a fragrance of musk. To that [wine of paradise,] then, let all such aspire as [are willing to] aspire to things of high account: 26 With it will be (given) a mixture of Tasnim: 27 A spring whence those brought near (to Allah) drink. 28 The sinners had been laughing at the believers. 29 And wink one to another when they passed them; 30 And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting; 31 and when they saw them, they said [scornfully], "These men have surely gone astray," 32 But they were not Sent to be guardians over them! 33 so today those who believe shall [be able to] laugh at those who denied the truth 34 On high thrones, watching. 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
