The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 and casts forth whatever is in it, and becomes utterly void, 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then he who is given his Record in his right hand, 7 will be easy, 8 and he shall return to his people, joyfully, 9 But as for those whose Book of records will be given behind their backs, 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 And shall enter a blazing Fire, and made to taste its burning. 12 Verily he was among his people joyous. 13 Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allah]. 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 No! I swear by the twilight 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 And by oath of the moon when it is full. 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 But what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them do not bow in adoration? ۩ 21 Instead, the unbelievers reject it, calling it a lie. 22 And Allah knows best what they gather (of good and bad deeds), 23 So give them good tidings of a painful chastisement, 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
