The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the sky bursts open, 1 And obeys its Lord and it must. 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 And shall cast forth that which is therein, and shall become empty. 4 And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] - 5 O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 6 Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand, 7 he shall surely receive an easy reckoning 8 And he shall return unto his people joyfully. 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 he will pray for utter destruction 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah). 14 Yes indeed, his Lord was ever watching him. 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 And the Moon in her fullness: 18 Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage. 19 But what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 And when the Quran is recited to them they do not make obeisance? ۩ 21 Nay! those who disbelieve give the lie to the truth. 22 And Allah well knows what they conceal in their hearts. 23 Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted. 25
