The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the heaven and the comer by night; 1 And what could make thee conceive what it is that comes in the night? 2 The very brightly shining star! 3 Over every soul there is a watcher. 4 So man must consider from what he has been created. 5 he has been created out of a seminal fluid 6 Coming from between the back and the ribs. 7 Now, verily, He [who thus creates man in the first instance] is well able to bring him back [to life] 8 upon the day when the secrets are tried, 9 Then man will have no power or any helper. 10 By the sky which returns [rain] 11 and by the earth ever bursting with verdure, 12 Behold this is the Word that distinguishes (Good from Evil): 13 And no trifle. 14 They are devising guile, 15 And I (too) will make a scheme. 16 So bear with unbelievers with patience, and give them respite for a while. 17
