Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In an elevated garden, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 And cups put in place 14 And cushions ranged! 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
