Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In a lofty garden, 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 raised couches, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 And cushions ranged 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
