Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and outspread carpets. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
