Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In a lofty garden, 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 In which are high thrones. 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
