Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In a high Garden. 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 and goblets laid out, 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
