Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 And goblets set at hand 14 and cushions ranged, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 you are not their keeper. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
