Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 in a garden sublime, 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
