Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 enter My Paradise! 30
