Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Join My worshipers and 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
