Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And [by] ten nights 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
