Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and ten nights, 2 And the even and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 enter My Paradise! 30
