Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Dawn 1 And ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
