Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 and the ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
