Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 an orphaned relative 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
