The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate

۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 whereas those who are bent on denying the truth of Our messages - they are such as have lost themselves in evil, 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20

God Almighty has spoken the truth.
