Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
