Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 Of a related orphan, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
