The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 [It is] the freeing of one's neck [from the burden of sin,] 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 an orphaned relative 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
