The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 He verily will be content. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
