The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 – this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
