Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
