Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And did We not show him the two highroads (of good and evil)? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
