The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
