The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 And by the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 And given the faculty of knowing what is disruptive and what is intrinsic to it. 8 Truly he succeeds that purifies it, 9 and he who corrupts it is sure to fail. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
