The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 TO [THIS] TRUTH gave the lie, in their overweening arrogance, [the tribe of] Thamud, 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
