The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 And [by] the night when it covers it 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
