The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 What time the greatest wretch of them rose up. 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
