The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And the day resplendent 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
