The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And the day resplendent 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
