The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
