The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 It will be a place of return 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
