Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In a lofty garden, 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions ranged 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
