The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
