The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 And rejects goodness, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
