The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And accepts the best, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
