The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And accepts the best, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And rejects the best, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 They do not expect any reward 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
