The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
