The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
