The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
God the Almighty always says the truth.
