The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
