The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 What is your opinion if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
