The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it covers 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
